About me, my experience and my therapy practice

My name is Jane Johnson (she/her).

Thank you for looking at my website. I am a warm, inclusive and compassionate person with a passion for listening to people and supporting them to find a way through their problems and challenges.  I am a qualified, integrative counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I understand that life can, for many different reasons, feel overwhelming, confusing and lonely at times. I know how feelings of anxiety  can have a negative impact on different aspects of day-to-day life including relationships, socialising, self-esteem, self-confidence, well-being, sleep, work and study.

I provide a safe and confidential space for us to work together at your pace to explore your experiences, thoughts, worries and feelings and to identify the changes you want to make in your life.

I live all aspects of my life with a strong focus on equity, diversity and inclusion. Please find information in this section about my background, experience, who I can work with, the type of support needs I can help with and my qualifications.

I look forward to hearing from you whatever your circumstances.

Who I work with.

I work with adults of all ages and with young people from the age of 13 years. I have worked with clients from the age of 13- 86. Clients of all ages and from very different backgrounds have told me that they find me easy to talk to about their thoughts, worries and feelings.

It may be helpful for you to know I have extensive experience of working with adults and young people with wide-ranging additional needs, with experience of being in Local Authority care and with trans and non-binary young people, adults and their families.

Client feedback:

"Thank you for your kindness. I have discovered so much about myself in our sessions and I have already begun to make the changes I now know I want in my life."

My background and experience

I currently work from my counselling rooms in Heaton Moor and the centre of Stockport. Prior to this I provided counselling in a Cancer support centre serving the Northwest of England. I also work as a counselling lecturer teaching adults who are setting out on their journey to train as counsellors. Alongside being a counsellor, I have worked in education and social care services for over 30 years providing support to adults and young people dealing with wide-ranging emotional challenges, different forms of loss and other life changing experiences.

My personal and professional experiences have shown me how counselling can help people with the difficulties they are experiencing, regardless of their background, sex, gender, age, sexuality, disability, religion or culture.

Client feedback:

"You have been interested in me and in my life. You have listened carefully to me and really tried to understand my life and my culture and what is important to me."
