If you are in training to become a counsellor a requirement of your course will be that you arrange personal therapy sessions for yourself.
As both a qualified counsellor and a counselling lecturer I understand how vitally important the experience of accessing counselling is for counsellors' and trainee counsellors' personal development.
As a trainee, you will usually be required to arrange a series of personal therapy sessions during each year of your course. This experience is invaluable. It enables you to explore your own thoughts, feelings and experiences and to identify the changes you may need to make to improve your quality of life and to support you to become an effective counsellor.
It also provides you with the opportunity to experience different styles of counselling which can help to inform your thinking about the type of counsellor you want to be.
